Happy Table

I recently purchased a coffee table and matching end table off of Craig's list. The coffee table base was in less than perfect condition.

It has been a couple weeks since the purchase, since then we have had our old coffee table AND new, broken coffee table in our living room. I have been trying decide what to do. I thought I would buy some new legs online, but after buying all the pieces, it would be about $80. That means my 2 for $25 tables are now two for $105 tables. The old $15 table was a tray top (it was not attached to the base.) Over the last few days I decided to merge the two.
I loved the size and shape of the new table top...
...and the base of the old was simple.

So I went to work taking the new table apart. There were a lot of pieces to the base of the new table, that means lots of new screws for my spare parts box! And lots of scrap wood, I am still not sure what to do with it. Do I just throw them out?
I placed the old base on the underside of the new top, I measured and lined it up so that it is centered and square. Then I used the blocks from the old base to screw the top and bottom together.
And TADAAAA!

When it gets warmer I will paint it as I didn't like the brown of the old table wood and I sort of hate the light wood on the new table top. Maybe white to match our tv bench? I have been scouring blogs, looking for the perfect inspiration for a paint job.
